Brass: Soft and Warm and Metallic
“Men admire the man who can organize their wishes and thoughts in stone and wood and steel and brass. - Ralph Waldo Emerson”
A mini-post today as I rush through my short week in town, looking forward to some down time - being cozy with my family, being thankful, cooking good food, and enjoying a few hikes and/or runs in hopefully above-freezing weather.
It’s no news that brass is a hot material and finish in residential interior design, and has been trending for the past year or so. Last week I sourced some accessories and decorative objects for a client’s Master Suite and stumbled on a few very swoon worthy items.
While there is a plethora of beautiful elements available, those that consistently catch my eye and steal my heart are those that present the softer side of the metal alloy: Using brass as a contrast to even more organic materials such as wood and stone; Using brass as an accent to soft colors, as clients of mine did with their delicately neutral kitchen cabinets with brass hardware; Using brass as a mimic for other textures such as pottery or sand. This ain’t the brass table lamp from my grandparent’s living room!
Here are just a few of my most recent favorites that reveal the soft side and warmth of brass…
